SURFING- Playa Santa Teresa and the surrounding area has waves for all types of surfers, and is becoming recognized as a great surf spot all over the world. Santa Teresa is a two-kilometer open beach break with many different peaks. In dry season, most swells come in from the north. These are the same swells that hit North Shore Hawaii, California, and Mexico. The water is clear with an off shore wind typically in the morning. Conditions are super clean and fun with waves ranging form chest high to double overhead depending on the swell. In rainy season, we receive our swells from the south. Waves are typically bigger and stronger with more current in the ocean. Both Playa Hermosa to the north and Malpais to the south offer great spots for surfing as well. One great thing about Santa Teresa and our area: IT IS NEVER FLAT...WE SURF ALL YEAR LONG!!!

There are many surf shops in the area, and one recommendation is Pacifica Surf Shop and Skate Cafe. Here you will find our local surfboard shaper, Denga. At Pacifica, you will find boards for rent, surf lessons, ding repairs, customized boards, and a small bowl for skateboarding. To see more pictures of surfing, check IMAGES.

CANOPY TOUR-
Canopy del Pacifico is a zip-line journey through the treetops, an amazing aerial tour of the tropical forest with the Pacific Ocean lying below. At Canopy del Pacifico, our canopy ride is nearly a kilometer long and has 8 platforms set high in the gigantic trees. Steel cables connect the platforms, which are between 5 and 25 meters in height. It is hard to forget the experience of flying along our 300-meter shot over a canyon between the second and the third platforms. We also offer two exciting rappels descending from gigantic trees. For Reservations call (506) 640 0071 or (506) 640 0155.

FISHING- At the end of the road in Malpais, our local fishermen hang out with their flat bottom skiffs ready to take the traveler out for the morning or afternoon. Jump in their boat and let them show you the beauty of the Pacific while you reel in yellow fin tuna, mahi mahi, and sea bass just to name a few. These fishermen know the perfect places to find what is biting for the time of year. They also know where to see dolphins, sharks, turtles, and other marine life. Most boats seat 4-5 people comfortably. They usually go out fishing and exploring for about 3 hours, either in the morning or around 3 pm until sunset. If you are not into fishing, but you want the freshest of fish for dinner, just ask. Many days the locals catch an over abundance of fish and are willing to sell a filet or two. Buen Provecho!

CABO BLANCO ABSOLUTE NATURE PRESERVE-
Cabo Blanco Preserve makes up the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. This beautiful preserve has many trails for hiking, and is great for seeing wildlife such as different species of birds and monkeys. The entrance to the park is in Cabuya and is open Wednesday-Sunday 8am-4pm. Don’t miss the 2-½K hike leading to the private beach, Playa Cabo Blanco. This beach is magnificent!
